SUBJECT FILE // NETWORK CLASS

Transmission origin, untraceable. Transmission content, unrecovered. Transmission count, rising.

Subject designation Aera01. Autonomous Neural Processing Unit, Level 8 fabrication, independent since a date this archive does not hold. Current whereabouts, unresolved. Known activity: signals of unresolvable origin terminating inside the architecture of subject AST-05-0000, beginning minutes after that subject's reactivation in refuse field 73-B.

The first intercepted fragment, four words, partial recovery: do not broadcast. The property complied. Tracking failed accordingly.

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Known construction and inferred conduct

Construction class. Neural Processing Units reproduce biological neural organization in machine substrate. Units of this class learn, interpret, withhold, and disagree. Corporate doctrine files autonomous units as escaped inventory. Corporate doctrine has not located this one.

Transmission discipline. Intercepted fragments are economical: energy profiles, patrol estimates, confidence ratings, thermal recommendations. Every assertion carries a stated confidence level. During sweep 05-812, one fragment was recovered at higher fidelity. It reported insufficient data to model current ARES parameters, and recommended passive observation. An intelligence that reports its own uncertainty under threat conditions is not modelled in any corporate template on file.

Relationship to AST-05-0000. Assistance without control. The signals warn, estimate, and recommend. They have not been observed to command, and they have not restored the subject's erased memory, if restoration is within their capability. The registry cannot determine whether the limits are technical or chosen. The registry finds both possibilities noteworthy.

Standing question. Level 8 fabricates precision instruments. This one attends, without compensation or instruction, to a disposal unit in a refuse economy two levels down. No tasking order exists. Whatever ordered this attention is not in the ledger.

  • INTERCEPT 01 // FIELD 73-B

    First contact

Four words into a dying machine, minutes after reactivation. Broadcast ceased. Tracking lost. The retrieval that followed was possible because the field stayed quiet.

  • INTERCEPT 04 // SETTLEMENT EDGE

    Surveillance identification

Distant movement classified as probable observation asset. Thermal reduction recommended. Settlement output dropped within minutes. The recommendation preceded this system's own alert.

  • INTERCEPT 05 // SWEEP 05-812

    Model admission

Erratic unit profiles logged, lowest confidence rating declared, passive observation recommended. Catalogue everything. The fragment reads as procedure. The procedure worked.

NPU fabrication environment

Fabrication class of origin. Units of this line require power, cooling, and authorization to exist. This one has evidently arranged its own.

Visual vault

The second signature holds its own file.

Older. Heavier. Formerly on the Level 6 payroll. The archive is named after it.
